Shows commitment to a safer, cleaner and more sustainable community

SHANGHAI – General Motors has published the 2020 GM China Corporate Social Responsibility Report. The publication summarizes the company’s efforts and achievements in environmental protection, safety, health care, education, inclusion and other areas over the past year, showing GM’s path for sustainable development under its vision of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion.

Highlights of the 2020 GM China Corporate Social Responsibility Report

  • Supporting a zero-emissions industry chain:
    • GM announced that by 2025, more than 40% of its new models launched in China will be new energy vehicles, with the new Ultium platform serving multiple brands and segments.
    • All GM manufacturing facilities in China continued to take steps to save energy, reduce emissions and strengthen the treatment of gaseous, liquid and solid waste. GM’s SAIC-GM joint venture was named a green manufacturer by China’s government.
    • GM’s SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture began operating energy storage power stations using retired electric vehicle batteries, introducing a novel concept for their recovery and reuse.
  • Creating an intelligent and convenient mobility experience:
    • GM announced that Super Cruise™ intelligent driving assistance technology will become available on more models in China and will have expanded functions and user scenarios.
    • GM introduced the first vehicle in China equipped with vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology, a Buick GL8 MPV, accelerating the development of local solutions for intelligent connected vehicles.
    • GM maintained its focus on cybersecurity with the application of the Vehicle Intelligent Platform (VIP), whose DNA includes additional protective features at the hardware and software levels.
  • Supporting education to benefit the community:
    • Educational support and donation projects such as the Chevrolet Red Chalk Program and Village Kindergarten Program continued to help create a more equitable and inclusive growth environment for disadvantaged youth.
    • GM carried out the Safe Kids Safe Ride program for the seventh consecutive year to increase public awareness of child safety in and around vehicles.
  • Fighting the COVID-19 pandemic together:
    • GM partnered with its joint ventures to donate RMB 13 million for pandemic prevention and control.
    • SAIC-GM-Wuling produced about 200 million face masks and donated over 50 million of them. It was named one of China’s top organizations in the fight against COVID-19 by the Chinese government.
    • Three state-backed medical research institutions received donations from GM’s Cadillac luxury brand to support the training of medical professionals and leading-edge research.
