SHANGHAI – The Buick Electra L7 electric luxury sedan will become the first vehicle to incorporate Momenta’s R6 Flywheel Big Model, providing driver assistance features designed for Chinese consumers’ needs and local road conditions.
The R6 Flywheel is the first reinforcement learning model implemented in production vehicles in China to provide end-to-end driving assistance, with the objective of enhancing safety, convenience, and efficiency across diverse driving scenarios.
Introduction of R6 Flywheel on Buick Electra L7 represents a significant achievement in the strategic partnership between SAIC-GM, GM’s joint venture in China, and Momenta. The initiative combines strengths of the companies in software development, artificial intelligence, vehicle engineering, and system integration.
The Buick Electra L7 is the debut product of the new Xiao Yao architecture introduced in April. While Momenta’s R6 Flywheel model is built on data from 3 billion kilometers of real-world driving, SAIC-GM offers advanced vehicle architecture rooted in its knowledge of Chinese customers.
User Scenario Highlights
“Non-breakpoint” urban NOA (navigation on autopilot) navigates city roads smoothly, handling cut-ins, roundabouts, pedestrian crossings, and lane changes. At highway ETC tollgates, it autonomously identifies gates and keeps stable driving even without lane markings.
Industry-first “non-stop parking assist,” allows real-time parking space recognition and automated parking while in motion – eliminating the need to stop and manually start the process.
Looking ahead, these capabilities will be continuously enhanced via OTA updates, keeping the Electra L7 at the forefront of intelligent mobility.
