SHANGHAI - Buick today announced the launch of the refreshed Electra E5 in China, a pure electric mid-size SUV designed to deliver enhanced safety, comfort, and intelligent performance. Featuring 47 user-driven upgrades, the new Electra E5 continues to set benchmarks in space, luxury, and long-term value retention.
The new Electra E5 is available in three variants, offering a maximum EV range of up to 620 km, with pricing starting from RMB 149,900 to RMB 169,900.

Evolving with Buick’s PURE Design language, the new Electra E5 blends dynamic aesthetics with aerodynamic efficiency. Its closed front grille enhances airflow and creates a clean, modern profile. The dual-wing daytime running lights use precision laser engraving and Evonik lighting film to deliver a futuristic lighting signature. 19-inch multi-spoke wheels improve both visual appeal and energy efficiency, while the popular white exterior, treated with an 8-layer mica pearl paint process, provides superior corrosion resistance and a premium, light-reflective finish.
The vehicle measures 4,892 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,683 mm in height, with a generous 2,954 mm wheelbase. A flat rear floor and spacious legroom create a first-class ride experience for all passengers.
Inside, soft-touch materials cover 64% of contact surfaces, including the IP panel, door armrests, and center console, enhancing both comfort and visual refinement. Ergonomic wide seats with dual-density foam and floating headrests offer superior support even on long journeys. The rear seatbacks now recline to a 27-degree “golden angle” for an even more relaxed seating posture.
Efficient power meets long-lasting safety
At the core of the Electra E5 is General Motors’ dedicated EV platform with battery cells co-developed with CATL. Those cells support lifecycle fast charging and increase charging speed by 30%. Using a 3C charging rate, the vehicle can gain 350 km of range in just 20 minutes. Powering the vehicle is a highly efficient 7-in-1 flat-wire oil-cooled electric motor, delivering energy consumption as low as 13.4 kWh per 100 km.
Even in temperatures as low as -7°C, the battery retains over 95% of its capacity, and its lifecycle surpasses 800,000 km in industry stress tests. The integrated CTP battery pack offers a robust seven-layer protection system, which exceeds IP68/IP6K9K standards for dust and water resistance. In extreme safety testing, the battery demonstrated zero thermal propagation or combustion even after two weeks at 50°C and full charge — far surpassing China’s national standard of two hours.
Smarter, quieter, and more thoughtful
Equipped with SAIC-GM’s first AI voice assistant, the Electra E5 responds within milliseconds and executes up to 10 sequential voice commands within 25 seconds, across multiple zones. The system integrates seamlessly with popular AI models including DeepSeek, Doubao, and ERNIE. The vehicle also comes with the latest V5.0 eConnect infotainment system, supporting CarPlay iOS 26 for an intuitive, connected driving experience.
Passenger comfort and well-being are core to the Electra E5 experience. Its dual-flow climate control and air purification system reduce cabin CO₂ levels by up to 40%, helping to prevent fatigue on long drives. Cabin air quality exceeds Chinese national standards by more than 10 times, while electromagnetic radiation levels remain well below those of smartphones — making it ideal for families with children, expecting mothers, and health-sensitive individuals.
For acoustic comfort, the Electra E5 uses 5mm double-layer acoustic glass and premium insulation materials to achieve an interior noise level of just 22 dB, placing it among the quietest EVs on the market. A 14-speaker Bose premium audio system completes the serene cabin experience with rich, immersive sound.
