LIUZHOU – On November 18, SAIC-GM-Wuling celebrated its 20th anniversary by breaking ground for its Smart & Lean BEV Factory in Liuzhou, Guangxi, and starting production of Wuling's new global NEV model, the left-hand-drive version of the Air EV, at SGMW's Baojun base.
Designed to be the most flexible automotive assembly facility in the industry, the Smart & Lean BEV Factory adopts the "Smart Island" production method. The main line is responsible for mass assembly, while a branch line carries out customized sub-assembly. It is highly flexible, highly efficient, leaner and more stable. IMR intelligent mobile robots and one-stop data decision-making optimize production efficiency to manufacture SGMW’s highest-quality vehicles ever.
The left-hand-drive Air EV is the sibling of the right-hand-drive version built and sold by SGMW Indonesia. The Air EV recently received worldwide acclaim as the Official Car Partner of the G20 Summit in Bali. The 300 units on duty reduced carbon emissions by about 33 tons.
The Air EV has a range of 300 km on a single charge and is equipped with 30-kW and 50-kW drive motors in the two-seat and four-seat editions respectively. Forty-five minutes of DC fast charging is all it takes to achieve a charge from 30% to 80%. The model comes standard with a host of features that include a driver air bag, the antilock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, keyless entry, 360° panoramic video and the electronic stability control system, along with a 10.25-inch dual screen and the Ling OS connectivity system. It will soon be available in the domestic market.
