Nanning – SAIC-GM-Wuling unveiled its Light of ASEAN global new energy concept car and launched its One Two Three ASEAN strategy yesterday during the opening of the 21st China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning, Guangxi.
The joint venture has been deeply cultivating markets worldwide since its global expansion began nearly a decade ago. Through August 2024, SAIC-GM-Wuling had exported 1.07 million units, covering 104 countries and regions in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia. With its rapid transition to new energy vehicles, SAIC-GM-Wuling celebrated the production of its 2 millionth NEV at the end of last month, setting a new starting point for electrification and intelligence.
Previewing the New Era of Intelligent Mobility
The Light of ASEAN concept car incorporates cutting-edge features, showcasing the company's insights on future intelligent mobility. It presents a new interpretation of innovative design and technology to elevate tomorrow’s travel experience to new heights.
Inspired by the advanced technological aesthetics of fighter jets, Light of ASEAN features a unique "cross-star cone" front face paired with streamlined gull-wing doors that create a strong visual impact. The exterior rearview camera naturally extending from the hood to the A-pillar combined with a floating rear wing achieves an ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.18 Cd. This enables ground-hugging speed and ground-level excitement.
The zero-gravity dual-mode cabin blends the charm of a comfortable family sedan with the thrill of a sports car. It is equipped with hydraulically balanced zero-gravity seats, an Incell + LTPS ultra-high-definition borderless screen that supports eye-tracking technology, jet-like controls and an immersive independent sound field that represents the ultimate future cabin experience.
Light of ASEAN is also equipped with the intelligent follow-me robot, which integrates automatic navigation driving, intelligent road condition detection, all-weather fault diagnosis and solar charging. The smart travel assistant with its unique transformable design adds fun to travel and sets a new trend for future transportation.
Building an ASEAN NEV Industry Chain
SAIC-GM-Wuling’s One Two Three ASEAN strategy builds on the joint venture’s success in Indonesia, where it has a manufacturing facility, and other regional markets. It stands for one ASEAN NEV industry chain, two sustainable development systems, and the three major matrices of brand, product and ecosystem.
The strategy is a significant step forward for SAIC-GM-Wuling as it becomes an active participant in global NEV development. It aims to establish an ASEAN NEV industry chain by 2030, integrating production, sales, service, finance, energy systems, electronic controls and intelligent electric driving technology across the 10 ASEAN markets.
To ensure the strategy’s successful implementation, SAIC-GM-Wuling will transform its product and industry management, creating a “three-in-one” operation model led by its China headquarters, Indonesia manufacturing operations and coordination across ASEAN.
“Under the guidance of the One Two Three ASEAN strategy, we look forward to integrating our domestic and ASEAN operations and the China-ASEAN NEV industry chain to promote the growth of NEVs throughout the ASEAN region and ensure a high-quality journey for more ASEAN consumers,” said Zhou Xing, general manager of SAIC-GM-Wuling Marketing.
