Liuzhou – SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) has become the first Chinese vehicle manufacturer to produce 30 million vehicles. The milestone model, a Wuling Xing Guang S SUV, rolled off the assembly line this morning at the world’s first lean intelligent manufacturing (LIM) plant in Liuzhou, Guangxi.
This achievement underscores SGMW’s pivotal role in promoting industrial advancement and high-quality development through innovative manufacturing practices since its establishment in 2002.
The LIM plant was recognized as an “automobile manufacturing super factory” by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC). It has implemented flexible manufacturing techniques, integrating intelligent manufacturing with green and low-carbon practices, to support the industry’s high-quality development.
“The demand for new energy vehicles continues to grow, leading to changes and restructuring within China's automotive industry,” said Lv Juncheng, general manager of SGMW. “We are enhancing our core competencies across the board to remain competitive in the new era.
“SGMW has implemented structural reforms to advance our new quality industrial chain, strengthening our brand power through product innovation, and improving channel construction to solidify and expand our market presence.”
SGMW has outlined 138 projects entailing investment of RMB 29.3 billion. The Guangxi New Energy Laboratory has actively built up its scientific and technological expertise to become a hub for major technological advancements in manufacturing, vehicle architectures, powertrains, intelligent driving, infotainment, and battery technologies. The facility is also providing robust support for a comprehensive portfolio of pure electric and hybrid products.
In 2024, SGMW sold more than 1.5 million vehicles globally, over half of which were new energy vehicles.
